I have been waiting for the day when I’m able to blog “Darby-isms” once a week because as we all know – kids say the darndest things! Well, I don’t have anything incredibly hilarious to blog about YET. I’m sure I will soon enough since Darby has recently started saying SOME sentences.
Here are a few:
“Open the door!”
“Papa/Mama/Billie where are you?”
“Strawberry milk please!”
“I got it!”
“Oh man! What happened?”
The last one is my favorite. I really need to catch it on video because it is pretty funny! Darby is such a silly girl.

Every night when she heads to bed, Darby gives out her kisses to me, her Papa and our “puppy” Billie. (She is not a puppy, in fact she’s a senior in boxer years, she’s almost 8! But to us, she’s a puppy!) It’s so sweet to get her kisses and even Billie seems to enjoy it. Here’s a video from our camping trip of Darby giving Billie LOTS of kisses!
Last week we had to take poor Billie to the vet to get a tumor removed. She did awesome and has spent the last week being lazy and recovering. We put a t-shirt on her to keep her from infecting and licking her stitches and put her antibiotics and pain pills in hot dogs! She is such a great dog and SO good and patient with Darby – and boy does Darby LOVE Billie. We are so lucky to be blessed with a great dog in our little family.
We spent Superbowl Sunday over at our friend’s (Mark and Rachelle) house. It was perfect because not only were WE in good company, but Darby had a great time playing with Jackson! They are just so cute together.
Seriously, can it get much cuter then this?:
We had an AWESOME time on our mini vacay up north. The campground was perfect, Darby slept perfectly every single night and the weather couldn’t have been better. It was so much fun being away from distractions and having some serious quality time as a family. I took a TON of pictures, of course. I think the grand total was close to 300. Get me out of the house and I turn paparazzi, mostly on Darby!! I just can’t resist.
We had a great Valentines Day, filled with hikes, treats and a romantic candle light dinner (Darby was in bed) of grilled asparagus, potatoes and bacon wrapped scallops! I got some fun surprises from Eric, from the 99cent store. Yes, the dollar store. Yes, I was happy! We aren’t big on huge gifts for Valentines Day and we were already spending money on the camping trip, so the dollar store was a perfect choice. I got some perfume (which was basically a joke, but it sort of smells like Chanel), some candy, some lotion and a hat. The hat is the one Darby is wearing in the hiking pictures, it was too small for my head!
My favorite part of my surprises was my card. It’s always so nice to hear the sweet things Eric writes in cards. I think I get about 3 per year, if he gets cards for all occasions. Anniversary, Valentines and Birthday. Oh, I guess I can add Mothers Day to that list now. (Yay! I love getting cards!) Anyway, it’s usually a cross between utterly romantic/sweet and hilarious. This years Valentines Day card didn’t disappoint. I will spare you some of the cheesy sweetness, but I can’t help but share the funny! As Eric said in my card:
“It makes me so happy that we are trailer trash rather than hotel snobs. We are the perfect match.”
Now that’s love. 🙂
Hope each of you had a fun filled holiday weekend too!
Off we go this morning away for a long Valentines Day weekend family camping trip! We are heading up to a place called Ocean Mesa, 20 miles north of Santa Barbara. Darby is very excited about being in the trailer – she didn’t want to come back in the house yesterday when we were loading it up!
Who is Darby’s Valentine this year? Jackson of course! She even sent him a special Valentines surprise in the mail since we wont be in town on V-day.
Hope you have a wonderful Valentines Day, spoiling and celebrating the one(s) you LOVE! XOXO
Darby must know something I don’t about yogurt and moisturizer! The other night at dinner she gave herself a skin and hair treatment of strawberry yogurt.
So, no need to spend an arm and a leg on your expensive skin care products anymore! Just take it from Darby: yogurt-izing is the best!
Bathtime was extra long that night!!

Darby had a great time cheering her Papa on at his first softball game of the season. She would say “oh hit” when one of the guys (from either team) would get a hit, and then she would say “runnin’ runnin'” as they ran to first. She would also yell for her Papa when he was in the outfield.
Here is a video of her hamming it up and having a fun time during the game!
