Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

So I bought some fun props from the dollar section at Target – a leprechaun hat, green necklaces and 2 different funny headbands – HOPING to do a fun photo shoot with my kids so I could post some cute pictures for St. Patty’s Day.  Well, it’s a good thing I didn’t have high hopes for this photo shoot.  Darby doesn’t sit still anymore and she would rather make silly faces then smile – even when I ask her to smile like a princess!  The props were pretty much completely useless because no one would have a thing to do with them.  I couldn’t even get Darby to keep the necklaces on! Needless to say, I got a lot of pictures with a good view of right up Darby’s nose.. and of course Finn wasn’t having it either!

Here are the best of the worst:

This one sums up the photo shoot perfectly:

Oh how I LOVE my little Irish babes!!  HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!!

Here I Am!

Things are busy over here, but we are surviving!  After the hustle and bustle of the holidays, colds for every member of our family (including little Finn!), termites in the garage (and who knows where else – real thrilled about that!) and Eric making it back to work – the kids and I are in SOME WHAT of a routine.  Well, that might be pushing it a little, but I like to think so.  Everyday is different in its own way, but I can count on a few things:  Darby will take a nap for at least and hour and a half and come hell or high water I will get myself in the shower at some point!

Regardless of the challenges, I LOVE our family of 4 and wouldn’t have it any other way. Plus, people make it with a lot more kids than two.  Two is totally manageable.  Although MORE manageable when Eric is home then when he is not 🙂 Just saying.

I can not believe Finn is almost 4 weeks old! Where did those weeks go!? He is almost a full month old.  He is a MUCH more fussy baby then Darby was. I don’t think Darby ever really cried unless she was hungry or teething.  Finn is a different story, and it’s been a challenge, but slowly we are figuring out what works to help him .. and what does not!  He is a champion nurser, a booby baby thru and thru.  Back when he was 5 days old he weighed 7lbs 13 oz and when he was a week and 5 days old he weighed in at 8lbs 9oz! That’s almost a pound in a week!  It was relieving to know that all the cluster feedings and power nursing wasn’t for not!

I have a lot to catch you all up on – pictures from his birth and birth story, the holidays and just cute moments in general. Hang in there with me while I get caught up.  I’m not making any promises on when that will be exactly, but it will happen!

For now, here’s a few to tide you over!

I think they look so much alike in these two pictures!

Merry Day After Christmas!!

… that’s what Finn is.  Here we are, one day past my due date and he is still all snuggled warm happy as ever! I thought he would have been here by now, but that’s proving to have been a silly thought!  No matter what spicy food I eat, how much I walk or how much “romance” there is going on, he just seems to want to stay where he is!  We are SO ready for him to be here with us!

It’s looking more and more like the little dude will be evicted (induced) sometime this week.  My appointment is tomorrow at 3:30, and we will schedule the big day then.  Honestly, I am not too excited about having to induce, but also don’t feel good about continuing to wait too far past my due date. I have come way too far to risk the placenta shutting down and something going wrong with Finn.  I know many woman wait 2 weeks past their due dates and still deliver healthy babies.  The difference is that perhaps they didn’t know exactly when they conceived and figure the due date may be “off” a bit.  We know when we conceived (I was temping/charting) so there is no question the due date is the due date!  Also with my past labor with Darby, and running into the scar tissue issue on my cervix (scar tissue from going through the 2 d&c’s with our heaven babies that prevented me from dilating properly on my own) it just seems like my hope of going into labor naturally and getting to experience a labor so different from the one with Darby just isn’t a reality.  Of course there IS always the chance that he gets the show on the road before tomorrow afternoon.  But if not, at least this time for the most part I will know what to expect!

In the meantime, we are still having fun waiting. We have been watching Christmas specials on tv like Rudolph, Frosty and the Muppets Christmas Carol.  Darby is loving it.  Last night she went and got her Santa hat, put 2 pillows on the floor, put bells around Eric’s neck and said to him “come over to my sleigh Rudolph it’s time to go to Christmas!”  It was beyond adorable!

I just can’t wait for Finn to join in the family fun!!

Santa’s Lap!

I had been worried that Finn would make an early appearance and we both wouldn’t be able to take Darby to sit on Santa’s lap this year. (With whooping-cough around California like wild-fire, Finn wont be going a lot of places for the first 3 months of his life!)  But it’s really starting to look like little Finn is going to follow suit with his big Sis and be fashionably late – possibly evicted!  There is still time before that would happen, but I’m not going to get my hopes up too high! I’m still REALLY praying that he comes on his own, but I just don’t feel good about waiting too long past my due date.  I have an appointment on Monday and will be 2 days into my 41st week at that point (40weeks+2days), so if he hasn’t wanted out before then, we will schedule to be induced.

Even so, I am so happy that we were able to take Darby to sit on Santa’s lap at South Coast Plaza last weekend!  Now that she is more “toddler” we weren’t really sure how the whole “sitting on Santa’s lap” would be received.  Luckily, there were no tears, but there weren’t smiles either!  We were still happy, Darby just looked SO perfect in her beautiful Christmas dress (very special from her Great Aunt Lynne and Great Uncle Kevin, just like last year!).  She posed for pictures and nicely told Santa what she wants for Christmas – a ‘Hide and Seek Jojo’ – a bunny rabbit with a carrot you hold that will play hide and seek with you.  He comes to find you! It is really all she talks about, she is going to be so excited on Christmas eve when “Santa” over at her Grammy Julie and Grandpa’s house make her wish come true.

Here are some pictures from our trip to South Coast Plaza that included a ride on the Christmas Carousel – Darby’s favorite!

Here are a few videos:

In Finn news: the waiting continues!  I was really confident for a while that he was coming early… but like I said, I’m not so sure now!  I’ve been having contractions here and there, specially when I’m on a walk or shopping, but nothing that is steady or increases.  The other night after a spicy dinner of yummy Thai food, at about 1am I started contracting and did for a few hours.. then fell back to sleep and woke up normal again. So keep standing by! Hopefully we will have some happy news by the end of the weekend and will officially be a family of 4 (well 5, if you include our dog!)!

So Much To Be Thankful For!

Things have been busy! I am in the homestretch with Finn, he really could come any day now – and that is crazy! This pregnancy has flown by.  I think I will never feel completely ready for him to be here so he just needs to show up!  The house is never clean enough, things never seem to be completely picked up (thanks to my adorable 2-year-old!) and I will always have things on my to-do list.  So whenever HE decides it’s time, I will be forced to feel ready!  My Doctor is on vacation until Saturday, so hopefully Finn will not make any decisions before then!!

Right now I’m in my 38th week and feeling good.  I have been occasionally crampy/uncomfortable with some contractions and low sharp pain.  Nothing consistent and nothing labor like – I don’t think.  With Darby I felt NOTHING until I was induced, and I can’t really compare going into natural labor to the pitocin induced hell I went through with her for those 25.5 hours! I am so happy I don’t have a lick of swelling to this point! I still have my wedding rings on!

Here’s a picture from a week and a half ago, when I finished my 36th week:

(It’s not the best picture quality, I took it on my cell phone, but its better than nothing! )

Little Finn has been moving up a storm still.  Isn’t he supposed to be running out of room this late in the game? I love feeling his little butt move back and forth across the top of my tummy.  He’s had a the hiccups a LOT lately, which means he is practicing his breathing for when he makes his big debut!

Darby is gearing up to be the Big Sister! She loves talking to Finn through my tummy, kissing it and giving it big hugs.  We have been talking recently about how once Finn is out and a little bigger, we will all go to the zoo together. She thinks that sounds pretty cool!  She is loving the “holiday season” so far.  She hangs “decorations” up in her room and talks about sitting on Santa’s lap.  It also seems like she’s figured out how Santa brings her presents, because all of a sudden she wants everything she see’s for Christmas!

About a week ago we were over in the area by Eric’s work and decided to pop by on his lunch break to say hi.  I figured it might be the last time for a while! Darby had a great time bouncing around the courtroom (dressed as Snow White no less!) and sitting in the jurors chairs.  Here’s a video I took of her playing with one of the microphones. She is so silly!

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving!   There is so much to be Thankful for each and every year!  This year, I’m thankful for growing families – my 2 new nieces, and my soon to be new SON; for all my wonderful Friends – who live near and far but no matter what are always there!; for a loving Husband that is taking 3 weeks off when Finn is born to be home and help; for good health with our Parents and for my wonderful Keurig coffee maker – without which I think I wouldn’t survive!

What are you thankful for this year?

Wishing you and your families the most wonderful Thanksgiving!
